KnaggAppz / MarkIT / Privacy

MarkIT privacy policy.

Simon Knagg, trading as KnaggAppz. Privacy information for MarkIT beta 0.3.9.

Beta privacy notice · 26 October 2026

This notice describes the supplied Android beta, version 0.3.9 (build 12). It does not announce a public release or confirm availability on Google Play. It must be reviewed again if the app or its services change.

Who is responsible

Simon Knagg, trading as KnaggAppz, is responsible for MarkIT and for personal information provided directly to KnaggAppz. For privacy enquiries, contact support@knagg.org.uk. This notice concerns the app; website hosting is covered by our website privacy notice.

Information stored on your device

MarkIT stores production sessions and markers in its local app database. These can include project and session names, an operator name, camera identifiers, clip references, notes, frame-rate and timing settings, marker labels, categories, colours, durations, input sources and creation/update times. It also stores presets, button mappings and preferences.

You choose what to enter. Production notes and names may contain personal or confidential information, so avoid entering information you do not need. Timing information includes device elapsed-time and restart information used to manage sessions.

Exports you choose to create

The beta contains local export and OneDrive export functions. Exported marker and production details may contain the names and notes you entered. When you choose a destination using Android’s file picker, that destination may be local storage or a connected cloud provider. Copies outside the app are managed separately by you and that provider.

Optional Microsoft OneDrive connection

The beta includes Microsoft device-code sign-in and user-triggered OneDrive uploads. If you use this connection, Microsoft processes the sign-in and service requests, including normal connection information such as your IP address. MarkIT receives authorisation tokens; you enter your Microsoft password through Microsoft’s sign-in service, not into MarkIT.

The connection requests Files.ReadWrite and offline_access. The file permission is broader than access to the MarkIT folder: it permits reading, creating, updating and deleting the signed-in user’s files within Microsoft’s permission rules. The inspected upload workflow uses a MarkIT/project/session folder, checks existing filenames and uploads marker CSV and, where selected, Premiere XML files. Offline access allows the app to obtain new access tokens without asking you to sign in every time.

The beta stores a refresh token encrypted using Android Keystore-backed AES-GCM. Requests to the Microsoft sign-in and Graph services use HTTPS. These safeguards do not guarantee absolute security. Supported Microsoft accounts and public availability of this integration are not yet confirmed.

Microsoft and, for managed accounts, your organisation apply their own service, security, retention and access policies. See Microsoft’s privacy statement. No Microsoft affiliation or endorsement is claimed.

Remote triggers and permissions

The beta includes handling for remote key/button input. A compatible remote may act as an Android input device; its events can be used as marker input. The inspected manifest requests Internet access and an app-specific protected receiver permission. It does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts or Bluetooth scan/connect permissions. This is not a guarantee of compatibility with every Bluetooth device.

Android backups and device transfer

Android backup is enabled in this beta. App data may therefore be included in device backups or transfers, depending on Android version, device manufacturer, your settings and backup service. This is separate from choosing to export or upload to OneDrive. Manage backup copies through your device or backup provider; deleting live app data does not necessarily delete existing backups.

Analytics, advertising and accounts

No advertising, analytics, crash-reporting or payment SDK was identified in the inspected beta, and no separate KnaggAppz account-registration service was identified. The reviewed app-specific network code connects to Microsoft for the optional OneDrive feature. This statement is scoped to this beta and will be reviewed before a commercial release. Free/Pro pricing and features remain undecided.

If you contact support

We receive your email address, message and any files you choose to send. We use these to answer your enquiry and investigate issues, relying on our legitimate interests in supporting the app and responding to users. Our email service providers process correspondence to deliver and store it. Do not send passwords, sign-in codes, access tokens or confidential production files.

Routine support correspondence is retained for up to 12 months after the enquiry is resolved. Relevant records may be kept longer where needed for a dispute or legal obligation, and are deleted when that need ends.

Retention and deletion

KnaggAppz cannot remotely erase files stored only on your device or in your Microsoft account. See data requests and deletion guidance.

Your rights and complaints

Where applicable, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal information we hold, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights depend on the circumstances and may have legal exceptions. Email support@knagg.org.uk; we may ask for proportionate information to verify the request.

Please contact us first with concerns. You can also raise a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office via ico.org.uk, or the relevant authority where you live.

Audience and changes

MarkIT is intended for adult and general production users and is not specifically directed at children. We will update this notice when data practices change, including any future analytics, billing, account or integration changes. The policy for the final release must match its actual behaviour and store disclosures.
